The Weather Network is predicting a cooler and wetter than normal summer for southwestern Ontario.
Meteorologist Tyler Hamilton said the sustained summer heat likely won't arrive until July and will continue throughout August. He also said this summer will still be humid and stormy but not as hot as last year.
"A nice, warm southwest wind when summer hits its stride as we head towards July and August," said Hamilton.
Hamilton said the summer forecast is tricky this year and it could be hit and miss. But he expects rainfall to continue to be higher than normal.
"There's a battleground setting up and we expect that precipitation trend to continue. What we've seen through spring where we're well above normal in terms of rainfall and precipitation, that's expected to continue," he added.
Hamilton said there's a heightened risk for severe weather in southwestern Ontario this summer as well.
"That's just the nature. Canada's tornado alley, after all, extends into parts of southwestern Ontario," Hamilton said.
Hamilton said Ontario averages 13 tornados every year and the most prolific happen in the southwestern region.
He added flooding will continue to be a concern this summer because of driving wind and record high water levels in the Windsor area.
