The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reported Thursday that 25 kilograms of methamphetamine and a large amount of American currency was seized at the Blue Water Bridge two weeks ago.
On May 2, 2019, a semi-truck entering Canada at Point Edward was referred for secondary examination.
CBSA officers scanned the vehicle with a large scale imaging X-ray and the discovery of an anomaly led to a further search with help from a detector dog.
In a media release, the agency said 23 clear wrapped packages that tested positive for methamphetamine were found, as well as two envelopes containing $126,000 in U.S. currency.
The CBSA contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) who took custody of the accused and seized the drugs and money.
Branislav Barac, 42, of Mississauga faces several charges including importing a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property or proceeds of property over $5,000.
He is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on May 21, 2019.
The London RCMP Border Integrity Team is continuing the investigation.
Inspector Leslie Meagher of the London RCMP Detachment said the investigation is a testament to the strength of collaboration between the CBSA and the newly created London RCMP Border Integrity Team.
