More rain prompts flood watch

With more rain in the forecast, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) issued a flood watch Thursday for the Sydenham River watershed.

The authority said about 25 millimetres of rain is expected in the next 24 hours, on top of several rain events over the past week.

Water levels are elevated and soils in certain areas around the watershed are saturated.

Further precipitation could elevate water levels into natural floodplain areas, farmland and parks. The conservation authority said river banks are expected to be slippery with possible minor erosion.

We're reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift-moving water.
