Solar panel stolen from CK transit shelter

Chatham-Kent police are looking for a suspect following a theft at a bus shelter in Chatham.

Municipal officials said a solar panel was stolen on 85 Pine Street in Chatham on May 1. They are also clarifying that only one company -- Mountain Shelter Solutions -- should be installing or removing solar panels, or carrying out general maintenance at CKTransit shelters.

Anyone with information about the theft or witnessed any suspicious activity during that time is urged to contact police immediately.

Park Avenue crash leads to charge    

A 34-year-old man from Chatham is being charged with careless driving following a two-car collision on Park Avenue West, near Lacroix Street in the city.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. on Monday night. Police said no one was injured in the crash and the total value of the damages is estimated at $10,000.

Two alleged domestic abusers arrested

A 37-year old man from Chatham and a 44-year-old man Stratford have turned themselves in to police.

The men were wanted for counts of domestic-related criminal harassment. Both of them showed up at Chatham-Kent police headquarters Monday -- one in the morning and one at night -- and both were later released with conditions and a future court date.

The 37-year-old man will appear in court on May 17 and the 44-year-old man will make his first court appearance on May 31.

Two Chatham men arrested for public intoxication 

In two separate incidents on Monday, police located and arrested men who were allegedly drunk in a public place.

A 49-year-old man was picked up by police after he was reportedly spotted laying behind a business on King Street in Chatham. Police say he was unable to care for himself and was taken into custody.

In a similar incident, police responded to an establishment in Chatham just after midnight in regards to an "unwanted man."

The 36-year-old from Chatham was allegedly intoxicated when staff asked him to leave. However, he refused and was taken into custody for his own safety, police say.

Both of the accused were later released once they were sober.

McHappy Day

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service will be at various McDonald’s Restaurants on Wednesday in support of McHappy Day.

For every Big Mac, hot McCafe beverage or Happy Meal purchased, McDonald’s will donate $1 to Ronald McDonald House Charities and children’s charities across Canada.

"Join us tomorrow as we help families when they need it the most," said Const. Renee Cowell, public information officer with the CKPS.
