Chatham man accused of trying to steal rent payments

A Chatham man is in trouble with the law after allegedly trying to steal rent cheques from the office of an apartment building.

Police said the 33-year-old allegedly threw a rock to shatter an office window at a building in Chatham Sunday night. The man is also accused of damaging the rent drop-off box.

Although he managed to get an envelope from the box, police said the 33-year-old was unsuccessful in actually getting the money. He was arrested Monday and charged with break and enter and mischief.

Blenheim man charged with drug possession

A 32-year-old man from Blenheim is facing charges following a traffic stop.

An officer spotted a vehicle on the road with an expired validation sticker around 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Before the officer pulled over the vehicle, police said the driver allegedly threw something out the window.

After stopping the vehicle and retrieving the undisclosed item, police arrested the male driver. The 32-year-old is now charged with drug possession, three counts of breach of recognizance, as well as a number of Highway Traffic Act offences.

Copper wiring stolen

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after some copper wiring was stolen from a locked compound at Advantage Engineering.

Officers said the theft happened sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning. A "minimal amount" of copper has been reported stolen. However, the wiring was taken from a transformer, which caused some damage.

Using the Collison Reporting Centre

Chatham-Kent police are encouraging people to take advantage of the Collision Reporting Centre (CRC) for minor property damage collisions.

Instead of waiting beside the road or holding up traffic while waiting for police, drivers can report it at the police headquarters at 24 Third St. in Chatham. The CRC is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
