Investigation continues into weekend Highway 401 crash in CK

Chatham-Kent OPP is appealing to the public for tips as they continue to investigate a crash that shut down the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 just outside of Chatham Sunday night.

Police said a vehicle that was heading east on the highway at around 6 p.m. Sunday left the road and went into the south ditch before rolling over. Chatham-Kent EMS officials said the crash took place near the Mull Road overpass.

Investigators said all five of the people inside the vehicle were treated for injuries as a result of the crash -- one of the patients was airlifted to hospital from the scene with life-threatening injuries.

Officers closed the eastbound lanes for several hours for the investigation before re-opening the highway at around 12 a.m. Monday.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or the Chatham-Kent detachment at (519) 352-1122. You can also submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 - 8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous online message at www.helpsolvecrime.com and may be eligible for a cash reward.
