School board names new director

The Lambton Kent District School Board has named a new director of education to replace Jim Costello.

John Howitt will assume the role when Costello retires in the summer.

He's currently the Superintendent of Education responsible for Elementary Staffing and IT for the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB).

Howitt has served with the Essex board for the past 27 years and previously held administrative and teaching roles.

Board Chair Jane Bryce said LKDSB is in good hands under John’s leadership.

"We just anticipate that John will build on our successes that we've had so far. He really liked our mission statement of fostering success for every student every day, and we saw him to be someone who would fit into Lambton Kent just perfectly," she said.

The Lambton Kent District School Board serves 21,890 students in 62 schools through the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the City of Sarnia and the County of Lambton.
