Carleton named Big 12 player of the year

Chatham's Bridget Carleton has another award to add to her trophy case.

The Iowa State women's basketball player was named the Big 12 player of the year.

The senior is the first Cyclone player to win the award, which is picked by the league's coaches.

Carleton is in the middle of a banner season for Iowa State, averaging 24.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.2 steals, and 1.2 blocks against Big 12 opponents.

She helped lead the Cyclones to 13 wins in league action, tied for the most in school history.

Carleton won a league-high six player of the week awards this season and is also a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 first team.

Iowa State is currently ranked 19th in the AP poll, and 14th in the latest NCAA poll.
