A woman has been found guilty of charges under the Dog Owners Liability Act relating to an attack last summer.
According to Manager of Animal Control Services Jason Hamm, the incident happened on July 20 when a 54-year old man was walking down Gray Street. Hamm said a male American Bulldog was able to pull a motorized wheelchair onto the sidewalk and then proceeded to bite the man's right wrist, fracturing a bone in his forearm which required surgery.
The manager said the dog owner, a 59-year-old Chatham woman was convicted Wednesday of "being the owner of a dog, that did not exercise reasonable precautions to prevent the dog from attacking a person," and was fined $1,500.
Hamm added the victim is still getting treatment on his arm from the bite. He said the dog was surrendered on July 22 and determined to be too aggressive. It was euthanized on August 1.
