Teen's Snapchat request for explicit photos leads to charges

A Chatham teen is facing several charges after allegedly asking a pair of 16-year-olds for some explicit photos.

Police said the male teen who was arrested is accused of sending some Snapchat messages to a 16-year-old girl on January 20, offering to pay her money for explicit photos of her 16-year-old boyfriend.

The male teen also allegedly sent some Snapchat messages directly to the boyfriend, asking him to perform sexual acts.

Investigators said neither of the 16-year-olds complied with the requests, though, and police were notified.

A 17-year-old Chatham teen was arrested in connection with the case Tuesday morning and charged with communicating for the purposes of obtaining sexual services.

Police said the teen was also charged with breaching his probation orders because he was previously ordered not to possess or use any computer or device that has Internet access and he was also banned from contacting anyone under the age of 18 using any device that has Internet access.

The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham-Kent police are also using the case as a reminder to parents that they should keep a close eye on their child's online activity, adding that having conversations with children about their online safety is important.
