Dangerous driver allegedly had crystal meth, but no licence

A high-risk traffic stop in Wallaceburg ended with dangerous driving and drug-related charges.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer on general patrol initially attempted to stop a vehicle on Elm Drive Wednesday morning after spotting it on Dufferin Avenue without a rear licence plate.

Police said instead of pulling over, though, the driver allegedly kept going and blew through a pair of stop signs at Turnbull Avenue and Chestnut Drive before eventually stopping as he pulled back onto Dufferin Avenue.

The man behind the wheel was arrested and police said they allegedly found some crystal methamphetamine on him. Further investigation also showed the man did not have a driver's licence and that the licence plate on the front of the vehicle was not registered to any vehicle.

A 44-year-old Walpole Island man has been charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, using an unauthorized licence plate, driving without a licence, and drug possession.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date.
