Escape attempt at police headquarters

A 26-year-old Chatham man is in more trouble with the law after an alleged escape attempt at CK police headquarters.

Officers said the man -- who was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with a domestic incident -- allegedly attempted to escape from police custody when officers were escorting him back to his cell after being fingerprinted.

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Windsor teen connected to a stolen vehicle

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 17-year-old Windsor youth after a vehicle that was reported stolen in Essex turned up in Chatham.

Police said they found the stolen vehicle's keys on the teen after they got a tip that the boy and the car were at a residence in Chatham Tuesday night. Officers said they also found a center punch tool on the boy, which is used to break car windows.

Further investigation also showed that the stolen vehicle had stolen licence plates attached to it.

The youth who was arrested is charged with two counts of possession of stolen property -- one under $5,000 and one over $5,000. He was later released to an adult relative pending a future court date.

Man accused of stealing a hard drive from a local business

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man accused of stealing a hard drive from a local business after a failed attempt to obtain some passwords.

Police said the man allegedly took off with the hard drive after calling a Chatham business' IT department Tuesday morning to ask for them for some passwords. That request was denied.

An officer on general patrol was able to track down a suspect a short distance away as he was riding his bicycle and was also able to recover the hard drive that was stolen.

A 27-year-old Chatham man is now charged with theft and possession of stolen property and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Thousands of dollars in damage after car wash break-in

Police are asking for tips from the public after someone broke into a coin box at the Dauw Auto Wash in Wallaceburg and took off with $20 in change.

The value of the stolen change is minimal compared to the damages, which are estimated at $2,000.

Police said it happened sometime between 4 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday and they're asking anyone with information to contact Constable Kyle Wright at kylew@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 extension #87310.

Trailer reported stolen from Blenheim

Investigators are working to track down a car trailer that was stolen from a business on Industrial Avenue in Blenheim.

Police said the 2013 black Viltech trailer has a tandem axel was taken sometime between 10:50 p.m. and 11:05 p.m. on Saturday, February 2.

The trailer is valued at $6,000 and was last seen with the Ontario licence plate H2896N and had red and white reflective stickers on the side rails.

Drug charges laid during trespassing investigation

A 26-year-old Wallaceburg man is in trouble with police after officers allegedly found some methamphetamine on him.

Police said they arrested the man Tuesday morning after getting a complaint about an unwanted person at an apartment building on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.

The accused was charged with drug possession and released with conditions and a future court date.
