Kent Federation of Agriculture donates life-saving device

In an effort to ensure farm safety, an automated external defibrillator (AED) has been placed at Highgate Red Barn.

The Kent Federation of Agriculture donated the AED to the Highgate District Lions Club and the Highgate Agricultural Society after the device served its original purpose at the International Plowing Match, which was held in Chatham-Kent in September 2018.

A KFA stated in a media release that the AED was purchased with the intent of placing it somewhere in the community after the IPM.

The decision to place the AED in the Highgate Red Barn has to do with the amount of foot traffic it gets. The building is used for several events, which include club meetings, ball tournaments, easter egg hunts, and the Highgate fair.

According to the KFA, funding for the AED came from the organization’s Farm Safety funding application program.
