Bridge will not fall under pressure

The Third Street Bridge in Chatham is able to handle more weight after completing some additional inspections.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent issued a release Friday stating that the single load posting of 10 tonnes had been increased to a triple load posting of 10 / 18 / 25 tonnes.

The bridge closed to traffic in August of 2018 after safety concerns were raised. Following some rehabilitation work, the bridge reopened in October of 2018.

Chris Thibert, director of engineering and transportation, had previously told BlackburnNews.com that the bridge was scheduled for major rehabilitation at the end of 2019 or early 2020. Work done in 2018 was more of a temporary solution as full rehabilitation work is still needed.

The triple load posting is expected to remain in place until rehabilitation work starts in 2020/2021.
