If you are heading to the Detroit Red Wings-Toronto Maple Leafs game, there is some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that with the bulk of the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel's roof reconstruction project complete, the nightly closures have been lifted, at least until the beginning of March when tunnel officials say they will need to continue with some ancillary work.
To that end, detours for the tunnel bus to Detroit will for the most part end. During the tunnel closures, the bus has been forced to cross back and forth via the Ambassador Bridge and then make its way to the downtown cores of both Windsor and Detroit.
The bad news is that Transit Windsor is expecting heavy demand for the tunnel bus Friday night as the two Original Six rivals clash at Little Caesars Arena.
David Calibaba, sales and marketing manager for Transit Windsor, said in a media release this week that hockey fans, or those heading to events such as "The Phantom of the Opera" at the Detroit Opera House, should be ready for a larger than usual load of passengers heading to the Motor City.
Calibaba suggests purchasing your $5-each-way tunnel bus ticket in advance at the Windsor International Transit Terminal or paying the $5 fare each way in cash when you board the bus at the terminal. With the bus expecting to run at capacity when leaving the terminal, it likely will not pick up passengers at other stops.
The tunnel bus will run both its regular and special events routes Friday night. Visit the Transit Windsor site for the routes and where the buses will stop so you can plan your visit accordingly.
