Southwestern Ontario is about to be hit with another 15 centimetres of snow, making for a messy evening commute.
On Sunday afternoon, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement across much of Southwestern Ontario with the forecast calling for significant snowfall. Late Sunday night, the weather agency issued a snowfall warning for London-Middlesex, as well as for Oxford, Huron, and Perth counties.
According to Ryan Rozinskis, meteorologist with Environment Canada, the snow will start Monday morning and get heavier throughout the day.
"We're looking at about 10 to 15 centimetres when all is said and done as we get towards midnight into Tuesday morning," said Rozinskis. "Also probably some lingering scattered flurries throughout Tuesday."
Rozinskis said that wind gusts of up to 60 km/h can be expected, presenting a hazard of blowing snow.
"Travel, in most of these cases with accumulating snow, can be hazardous," Rozinskis said. "Blowing snow definetly adds to that, it reduces visibility, making it harder to see."
Rozinskis adds that drivers can expect the winter conditions to be at their worst during the evening commute on Monday and should prepare to drive in hazardous conditions.
Once the snowfall stops temperatures are expected to plunge. According to Rozinskis, the overnight temperatures will reach near -20C on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
