Salvation Army needs a little more help in reaching its goal

The Chatham-Kent Salvation Army is in desperate need of volunteers and donations as the end of the organization's annual Red Kettle campaign nears.

The campaign, which raises money through kettle and mail-out donations, is coming up short in their $500,000 goal and there are only 11 days left of the campaign.

As of December 13, Captain Karen Holland said they're $80,000 short with their kettles and $166,000 short in the mail-outs. However, Holland had previously said they are hopeful of getting more donations ahead of December 25.

In terms of keeping red kettles out in the community, more volunteers are also needed for the Chatham, Ridgetown, and Wallaceburg areas.

"We have many shifts that are still open between now and Christmas Eve so if you have two hours or more [and] you would like to help out, that would be great," said Holland. "If we don't have somebody to stand beside a kettle, we can't have a kettle there."

Holland said this is the final push for monetary and toy donations to be made to the Salvation Army ahead of Christmas.

"We really count on people in the community and they have really been awesome to us so far," she said.

Those interested in volunteering in Wallaceburg can call (519) 436-1766, or for shifts in Chatham and Ridgetown, you can call (519) 350-4599. Information about volunteering can also be found by visiting the Salvation Army's website.
