Police clear suspicious vehicle report near school

A local man is learning the hard way that waving to kids who are walking to school or playing outside could be considered "suspicious activity."

Police said they spoke to the man after getting a call about a suspicious vehicle that was reported in the area of St. George Street in Chatham Friday morning.

Officers said the driver was seen waving to a child who was walking to school that morning, adding the same vehicle was seen driving along Prince Street in Chatham Saturday morning, and again, the driver waved to a group of children playing outside.

Police were able to identify the vehicle and the driver and said they do not believe there is any evidence of criminal activity or threat to public safety.

Officers did, however, caution the man regarding how his behaviour could be perceived.
