BIA aiming to extend parking hours in downtown CK

If the Downtown Chatham BIA gets their way on Monday night, residents and visitors can expect to see changes in the way they park.

The BIA has created a motion to change parking on Fourth Street from a one hour restriction to two. Parking on the street has been an hour restriction since 2000 but the BIA argues that much has changed since then. Fourth Street is currently the only roadway within the historic district without two hour parking. The issue will be discussed during the Chatham-Kent council meeting on November 19.

In addition to these changes, they are also pushing for updated parking on William Street, in front of the Retro Suites Hotel.

Currently, three spots in front of the hotel are labelled as 15 minute only parking but the BIA is requesting that only one spot remain this way while the other two follow suit and switch to two hour parking.

The BIA said they have received full support from the merchants on Fourth Street.
