In just over two weeks, red kettles will start to pop up across the community.
This year, the Chatham-Kent Salvation Army is raising its target because of the tremendous support they received last time and to meet a growing need in the area.
"Last year our goal was $460,000, and we were able to raise $490,000," said Captain Karen Holland. "This year with the cost of everything going sky high, we've set our goal for $500,000."
The red kettles will go out November 15, and Holland said they still need volunteers to serve at the stations.
"In all of Chatham-Kent we have to fill 1,907 shifts, that's a lot," said Holland. "We currently have 512 filled, so that's a good start, but that means there's over 1,300 left."
The kettles will be out all over the municipality, too.
"We have eight locations in Chatham, five in Wallaceburg, three in Blenheim, and two in Ridgetown, "said Holland. "So there's the mall, groceries stores, Giant Tiger, Walmart, Canadian Tire, there's lots of places."
The money raised stays in the community and goes to support the Salvation Army's numerous programs and their Christmas hampers.
