Wallaceburg murder case will return to court in 2019

A murder case that is crawling its way through the court system in Chatham-Kent will stretch into the new year.

Kournty Audette is now scheduled to have a focus hearing March 25, 2019, a confirmation hearing May 1, 2019, and the preliminary hearing will be July 15-19. She is set to appear in person for the May 1 hearing.

The Wallaceburg woman is charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of 24-year-old Nick Laprise back in April.

At Friday's hearing, a crown attorney told the court that the prosecution was prepared to start hearings in November, but the defence will not be ready until next spring.

The case has already been hit with a series of delays because of scheduling conflicts and requests for more time to interview witnesses.

There is still no firm timeline for when a trial could start.
