Warm front this week, cooler temperatures on the way

A glance at this week’s weather forecast may have you wondering if it’s actually almost the middle of October.

Today through Wednesday the weather forecast suggests temperatures will be in the high 20s, with humidex values into the mid-30s.

Mark Schuster, an Environment Canada meteorologist says the higher temperatures are not that unusual.

“It’s not uncommon to see temperatures get into the upper 20s, low 30s,” said Schuster. “Even into early Oct. A little bit unusual but not totally out of the ordinary.”

A strong jet stream and a low pressure system has “opened the door” for the warm weather, said Schuster. The warm front is expected to hit all of Ontario. Temperatures return to season regular Wednesday evening.

“It looks like we do have a front that’s going to go through the area probably sometime Wednesday evening and then considerably cooler weather for the rest of the week,” said Schuster. “So a few really warm days that for the most part will be dry.”

Schuster couldn’t rule out a stray shower or thunderstorm over the next few days, but did say the cooler trend should stick around for awhile.

“Doesn’t look like there’s any snow coming anytime soon,” said Schuster. “Whether or not we’ll see a return to upper 20s, I can’t guarantee.”

Next weekend’s highs are forecasted to be in the low teens, with overnight temperatures as low as 5 degrees Celsius.
