Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg's playing career is over.
Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland made the news official on Friday, citing a lingering injury concern as the reason Zetterberg is hanging up his skates.
Ken Holland announced that after consulting with Doctors, Henrik Zetterberg is no longer healthy enough to play professional hockey.

The 37-year-old forward, who was selected by the Red Wings in the seventh round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, spent his entire career with Detroit, winning a Stanley Cup with the team in 2008 while also taking home the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
In 15 seasons with the Red Wings, Zetterberg played 1,082 career regular season games, racking up 960 points (337 goals, 623 assists) -- the fifth most all-time for a Red Wings player.
