Chatham-Kent residents will soon be able to safely get rid of household hazardous waste for free.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent issued a media release stating that three locations will be accepting the hazardous waste on September 15.
"Household Hazardous Waste Day is a joint project between Chatham-Kent and Waste Connections of Canada’s Ridge Landfill," as stated in the release. "[It] is designed to ensure hazardous material is not placed in garbage containers where it could possibly injure collection workers or cause environmental damage."
Chatham's public works garage located at 25 Creek Rd., the Ridgetown garage at 13337 Reeders Line, and the Wallaceburg location at 600 Gillard St. will be open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Residents should keep in mind that when dropping off materials such as pool chemicals, pesticides, and paint, they should be in sealed containers that are clearly labelled. The maximum total amount that will be accepted is 50 litres.
