More CK Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile

Mosquitoes in two more traps in Chatham-Kent have tested positive for the West Nile virus.

That's in addition to positive tests for the virus in mosquitoes collected from at least four other traps in the Wallaceburg, Dresden, Blenheim, and northwest Chatham earlier this month.

The latest positive tests were from mosquitoes that were collected from two traps -- one located in Dresden and the other in the northeast area of Chatham.

While the symptoms and complications of West Nile virus can become quite severe, the health unit says "most people infected with the virus have no symptoms at all, or have flu-like symptoms."

Anyone who experiences a sudden onset of more severe symptoms like stiff neck, nausea, difficulty swallowing, vomiting, a lack of coordination or paralysis should seek medical attention immediately.

So far, there have not been any reports of any human cases of the virus in Chatham-Kent this summer.
