UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorms Sweep Across Southwestern Ontario

Southwestern Ontario could be in for some stormy weather.

Environment Canada says scattered thunderstorms developed throughout the day and continued to move through the area early in the evening.

The weather agency issued a severe thunderstorm warning for London-Middlesex, Chatham-Kent, Elgin County, Oxford County, and Windsor Essex Thursday afternoon, which was later downgraded to a watch.

A storm front returned briefly early Thursday evening, prompting another severe thunderstorm warning for London-Middlesex, which ended just before 6:30pm.

All thunderstorm watches and warning were lifted just after 6:20pm for all areas except Elgin County, which remained under a watch.

Officials are reminding the public that strong thunderstorms can be dangerous to people who are outdoors. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
