Ford Warns Some Vehicles Could Roll Away Unexpectedly

Ford is issuing a safety recall in North America for approximately 550,000 vehicles.

The automaker says some 2013-2016 Ford Fusions and 2013-2014 Ford Escapes could roll away because the bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may detach. Ford says drivers could shift to “park” and remove the ignition key but the transmission may not be in “park”.

The automaker says the affected vehicles have no warning message or audible chime.

Ford says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.

The recall involves approximately 37,000 vehicles in Canada.

Ford says it will replace the shifter cable bushing at no cost to the customer and adds that owners should use their parking brake.

Affected vehicles include:

2014 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant between June 18, 2013 and Sept. 15, 2013
