A local doctor is proudly displaying an award handed to her from the Ontario Medical Association (OMA).
Dr. Nadine Yammine, a head and neck surgeon with the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA), received the Glenn Sawyer Service Award at a ceremony in May.
"In her roles with OMA and the [Canadian Medical Association], Dr. Yammine has brought physician insights to issues on local, regional, provincial and national levels through specific motions, media interviews, letters to editors and meetings with MPPs & MPs," said a media release sent from the CKHA.
"Her commitment to addressing the challenges facing health care in rural communities shows her dedication to CKHA and the community we serve," says CEO Lori Marshall.
"Taking care of patients and bringing their issues all the way to our national and provincial regulatory bodies is a great privilege," says Dr. Yammine. "Being nominated and awarded the Glenn Sawyer Service Award by my physician colleagues in recognition of my contribution is a tremendous honour!"
According to the CKHA, Dr. Yammine is the only laryngologist in Southwestern Ontario. She completed her undergraduate and graduate education at Western University, where she now teaches in the Department of Otolaryngology.
