Police Briefs - Sunday, July 8, 2018

A Wallaceburg man is facing an impaired driving charge.

Chatham-Kent Police say the man was driving Saturday night in Wallaceburg when they stopped him for a traffic infraction.

The officer suspected the driver was under the influence and arrested him. Breath tests were administered at police headquarters.

The 24-year-old man is charged with driving while impaired and having a blood-alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He was held until he sobered up and released with a future court date.

Officers conducted a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program in Chatham late Saturday evening.

A total of 150 drivers were interviewed, with two roadside tests conducted and one three-day licence suspension issued on-the-spot.

Police say RIDE checks will continue throughout the summer to keep impaired drivers off the roads.

They remind drivers not to get behind the wheel if they've been drinking. Use a designated driver, call a cab or stay overnight.

A 36-year-old Chatham man faces charges following a collision Saturday afternoon.

Police responded around 1:30pm to a single-vehicle crash on Colborne St. in Chatham.

There were no injuries, but the damage is estimated at $10,000.

The driver has been cited for careless driving.
