UPDATE: Air Quality Statement Ended

Environment Canada has ended the special air quality statement for Saturday.

The weather agency had issued the statement for Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex, because the hot and sunny conditions were expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations in the area. Moderate risk air quality health index (AQHI) values have subsided for Saturday night, but are expected to deteriorate again on Sunday.

People may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

It's recommended that lights, computers, and other electrical appliances are turned off when not in use. Air conditioners should also be turned to a higher temperature.

This story will be monitored and updated as necessary.
