Record Totals Expected For CK's Tampon Tuesday

The final totals aren't in just yet, but by all accounts, Chatham-Kent's second annual Tampon Tuesday was a huge success locally.

The United Way of Chatham-Kent wrapped up the initiative Tuesday night after collecting feminine hygiene products over the past month.

Brian Armitage with the United Way says the donations were noticeably better this year than they were in 2017.

"I tell you right now... I guarantee it's going to double," says Armitage. "It's a fun event and it's educational -- you wouldn't think in today's time that there's still a stigma behind it, but there is."

Armitage says the products they collected will be distributed to food banks and women's shelters across the municipality.

"I believe there are 12 to 13 locations in Chatham-Kent," says Armitage. "All of the food banks, the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre, AIDS Support... all people who have clientele who are living in poverty and they need this stuff."

Officials are hoping to have the final totals counted up and sorted by about noon Wednesday before they are sent out.
