John Lawrence Named CK Senior Of The Year

A Chatham man known for advocating for environmental awareness and supporting local charities has been named Chatham-Kent’s 2018 Senior of the Year.

John Lawrence received the recognition during the Senior Expo & Achievement Awards on Friday.

As stated in a media release from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Lawrence has helped in fundraising for the Chatham-Kent YMCA and hospice. He has also stressed the importance of using water wisely.

Councillor Karen Herman said the work seniors do is what contributes to Chatham-Kent's age-friendly community.

"The nominees and the thousands of other seniors who contribute each year make Chatham-Kent a better community," she said. “To these people, volunteering and community service are second nature and I don’t know where we’d be without them.”
