Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Raises Over $10K In Chatham

A little bit of rain didn't stop men in Chatham-Kent from putting on a pair of heels to stomp out domestic violence.

The tenth annual Walk a Mile In Her Shoes event was held at the Downtown Chatham Centre on Sunday.

Karen Hunter, Chatham-Kent Women's Centre executive director, says about 50 men participated in the walk this year.

"[The turnout] was around the same the last couple of years. I think the weather might keep people away a little bit, because it was really raining," she says. "We had a good turnout with lots of people and great energy."

Hunter says she doesn't know exactly how much was raised at this year's walk, but she knows it's over $10,000.

"From our sponsors ahead of time, there was at least $3,000-$4,000, then the Christians In Action actually raised over $3,000 themselves," she says.

All the proceeds from the event go to the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre.

"I think [the event] is leading into our 40th anniversary, which is October 15," she says. "Some of the same guys are coming out year after year to support the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre, which is wonderful."
