There are plenty of job opportunities in Chatham-Kent for students to earn some cash this summer.
The Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board hosted a Youth Summer Jobs Fair Monday afternoon at the Chatham Cultural Centre.
A list of employers that were at the job fair recruiting for positions includes the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Revera, Bayshore Home Care Solutions, Sunshine Farms, YA, 31 Canadian Brigade Group, Sun Life Financial, Camp Vincent, TekSavvy, Care Partners, and YMCA.
Camp Vincent Director Paige Butt says there are positions open for counsellors in training, counsellors, and lifeguards.
"You get paid to hang out with kids all day and to eat really good food," says Butt. "You can be who you are and no one is being judgmental. You can roll around in the mud pit, you can be painted purple for a day, and do crazy stuff. It's just great to be able to be yourself."
Butt says staff should have first aid and CPR training before the camp starts and lifeguards will require an NLS certification. She says any other training is done on site.
Jay Morrow, a financial centre manager for Sun Life Financial, says the company is looking for admin-type roles that could turn into part-time positions for the fall as well.
"We're just looking for the most talented people in the community. We really want to give back to the community and really want to get the best students that are available so they join our organization," says Morrow.
Joanna Renaud, a regional HR representative for Bayshore Home Care solutions, says the company is hiring for PSWs and home support workers. She encourages nursing students or PSWs that are recent graduates to apply.
"Summer definitely helps cover the vacations that we have, so the hours can be flexible," says Renaud. "We just ask for 15 hours a week if possible and every other weekend so we can have that continuity of care. The starting wage is a really decent wage too."
Renaud says applicants can apply online at www.bayshore.ca.
