Strong winds may cause flooding in areas along the Lake Erie shoreline this week, according to a local conservation authority.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a flood outlook statement and says starting early Wednesday afternoon, southwest winds between 35-40 km/hr are expected. And Thursday morning wind speeds are expected to be comparable, but will then peak midafternoon at around 45 km/hr with gusts up to 65 km/hr.
Residents in vulnerable areas along the Lake Erie shoreline are urged to pay attention to local conditions and prepare accordingly in the event of possible flooding. In 2017, flooding occurred along Erie Shore Dr. in Chatham-Kent when winds exceeded 35 km/hr.
Local residents are also advised to take extra caution and avoid the shoreline should conditions become rough.
