The wind turbines in the North Kent Wind project are now fully operational.
A release from Samsung and Pattern Development says the 34-turbine, 100-megawatt wind farm is expected to power 35,000 homes each year and generate $40-million in economic benefits to Chatham-Kent's economy over the next 20 years.
That money will be split between $4-million that Samsung and Pattern Development are providing to the municipality as a "community benefit contribution," an estimated $5-million in tax revenue over the lifetime of the project, and the rest in landowner payments and facility spending.
"Samsung and its partners have created jobs and invested in the community, benefiting real people in Chatham-Kent and across the province," said Samsung C&T Vice President Eskay Lee in the release.
The release from the wind developer says at the peak of construction, the wind energy project employed approximately 175 skilled workers, sourced exclusively from Ontario, with most of the workers coming from the local area.
The project is also expected to employ ten permanent workers for ongoing operations and maintenance.
