A Kingsville company wants to open micro grocery stores in one of three under-serviced neighbourhoods in Windsor.
Go Produce Now already has an online shop serving about 600 customers in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, but is looking to expand.
"The idea kind of developed out of wanting to build the relationship with the communities that we service," says Marketing Specialist Amy Saba. "Giving them an opportunity to trust us with providing them with the premium quality food that we do."
Saba says the store would operate from May to October out of a shipping container in either downtown Windsor, Walkerville, and Ford City. The company needs the city's approval.
Saba says the company has been working closely with the Business Improvement Associations within those three neighbourhoods and is looking for some feedback from the public.
"We've started a voting system asking City of Windsor residents where they'd like to see our first pop-up shops in the hopes of opening up in May," says Saba.
If the venture is successful, more stores could open.
"The first ones will be our pilot, and then hopefully, in the years to come we could open in other areas," she says. "Maybe explore Chatham-Kent."
Saba says 80% of the produce that will be sold will be from farmers in Essex and Kent counties. The stores will also offer food to-go and make-your-own juices.
