Lead Foot Means Charges For a Windsor Man

The need for speed has led to charges for a Windsor man.

Ontario Provincial Police in Chatham-Kent say a vehicle traveling westbound on Hwy 401 at Communication Rd was clocked by a traffic enforcement officer's radar unit at 9:30pm Thursday. The vehicle was registered at 180km/hr. The posted speed limit is 100km/hr.

The information was sent to a second radar unit further down the road, who clocked the vehicle at 160km/hr and stopped the driver.

The 21-year-old driver was and charged with racing a motor vehicle, excessive speed or careless driving.

Penalties attached to these charges include an immediate seven-day vehicle suspension and/or a seven-day impoundment, six demerit points with a fine of $2,000 to $10,000 and a driver's licence suspension of up to two years for a first offence. Up to six months in jail is also possible.

Chatham-Kent OPP would like to remind drivers on this holiday weekend that stunt driving is a very serious form of reckless driving, which can result in serious injury or death.
