Charge Laid In Wallaceburg Dog Attack

Two dogs have been euthanized and a 35-year-old Wallaceburg woman has been charged following an attack involving a toddler.

Police say in February, two young children and their babysitter were tobogganing at Jaycee Park in Wallaceburg when two dogs escaped from a nearby home. A 6-year-old boy was able to get to safety, but the younger boy and the babysitter were both attacked.

The babysitter reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while a 3-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to a Michigan hospital with face and leg injuries.

The two dogs involved in the attack were seized by PAWR Animal Rescue during the investigation and later euthanized.

Jason Hamm, Manager of Animal Control Services, says the investigation showed that the dogs had previously attacked two other dogs.

Police arrested the dogs' owner on March 23 in connection with the investigation and charged her with criminal negligence causing bodily harm. The 35-year-old woman has been released from police custody with a future court date of May 4.

Chatham-Kent police say PAWR is continuing a parallel investigation into the attack.

The toddler who was attacked has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
