Efforts to get tourists away from Hwy. 401 and into the heart of Chatham-Kent have not gone unnoticed.
Chatham-Kent Tourism has received honourable mention for its "detourism campaign" at the 61st Annual Economic Developers Council of Ontario Conference (EDCO) in Toronto.
“We’re thrilled to be recognized in such a competitive and well-respected awards program,” says Shannon Paiva, supervisor of tourism development. “To be recognized among our peers for a collaborative team effort and to further increase awareness of all of the hidden gems in our municipality is wonderful.”
The campaign was an initiative to have drivers use "roads less travelled" during the highway construction from April 2017 to November 2017.
“Our role is to promote our community so that visitors and residents alike are aware of all that it has to offer," says Audrey Ansell, Chatham-Kent’s manager of community attraction and promotion.
This year's theme at EDCO was "Mission Possible: Agents of Change".
