Former NHL'er Discusses Addiction, Sexual Assault, And Suicide

Former NHL star Theo Fleury is coming to town.

Fleury and his therapist Kim Barthel will be talking about his alcoholism, drug addiction, being a sex assault victim, suicide attempts, and how to heal.

Tamara Dick, member of the Tilbury Drug Awareness Team, says the goal is to help people overcome obstacles and be more understanding and compassionate. Dick says people will come away with a lot from this event.

"You will have an honest conversation on that stage. They're very raw, very open and very frank. They don't sugarcoat anything," she says.

Dick says Fleury brings a very powerful and real message to Chatham-Kent.

"He talks about losing his first wife and children due to his substance abuse and his anger and his emotional issues," Dick says.

Fleury will be at the John Bradley Convention Centre April 26 from 8:30am until 4:30pm. The workshop will provide lunch and snacks.
