Tips To Prevent 'Filthy' Christmas Burglars

Chatham-Kent police officials are offering tips to protect your property from break-ins this holiday season.

Authorities say that property owners can greatly reduce the risk of a break and enter by simply ensuring that their houses are well lit with a motion sensor flood-light or outdoor Christmas lights to highlight the home's exterior. They say never feed extension cables through partially open windows.

Never post on social media your whereabouts during the holiday season, including any vacation plans, never post expensive Christmas gifts on Facebook and never leave presents near a window.

Garages, vehicles, windows and doors should be locked and bikes and tools should be secure.
