If you thought it felt colder than normal Friday morning, you're right.
Environment Canada says its monitoring stations in Windsor and London recorded new record lows for November 10, but it didn't get quite cold enough in Chatham-Kent to break a record.
Meterologist Geoff Coulson says the temperature at the London airport dropped to -8.7 C at around 9am Friday, beating the old record of -7.8 C set in 1973. In Windsor, the temperature hit a new low at -7 C between 6am and 8am, beating the old record of -5 C set in 1957.
The temperature at the Ridgetown site dropped down to -7.4 C, but that didn't touch the current record of -9.4 C set back in 1892.
Coulson says the cold weather was brought in by the passage of a "pretty significant" cold front.
"This cold air has been over Northern Ontario and the prairies for the past few days, but then finally did make its way into southwestern Ontario [Thursday afternoon and evening]," says Coulson. "It's a very dramatic shift from seasonal temperatures, even milder than seasonal temperatures that we've been experiencing."
Coulson says the Windsor-area could set another record low Friday night or early Saturday morning, but he's not expecting any records to fall in London or Chatham-Kent over the weekend.
