The Salvation Army is letting the Chatham-Kent community know that it's here to stay.
The organization held a flag raising ceremony at the Municipality of Chatham-Kent's Civic Centre on Wednesday to celebrate its 135th year working in the community.

Salvation Army Captain Karen Holland says the text on the flag "Giving Hope Today" is an important motto for the organization.
"That's our goal-- just to help whoever is in need with whatever we can help them with... so giving hope today," says Holland.
Holland says she hopes the flag will serve as a reminder for residents that the Salvation Army isn't going anywhere and will continue to make a difference in Chatham-Kent.
"We just want to first of all, let people know that we're here to help them and second of all, let people know, who are more fortunate than others, that donations are always welcome. We go strictly on donations from the community so that we're able to provide the services," explains Holland.
She adds that beginning in mid-November, the Salvation Army will be running its Christmas Kettle Campaign.
"When you walk by the kettle, don't hesitate to put something in...or even volunteer if you have a few hours to spare in a week to stand at our kettles," says Holland.
