The Chatham Maroons scored four straight goals in their 5-3 win over the St. Thomas Stars Sunday at Chatham Memorial Arena.
The victory moves the Maroons up the GOJHL Western Conference standings and their 17 points puts them in a tie for fourth place with the LaSalle Vipers.
Peter Fleming got the Stars on the board early, scoring at 1:20 in the opening period. The Maroons then put distance behind them in the middle period. Josh Supryka tied the game at 37 seconds into the stanza, and Bryce Yetman gave Chatham a 2-1 lead with a goal later in the period. Dane Johnstone added a goal of his own before the second intermission.
Chatham added a Grant Spence goal at 3:09 in the third period, but St. Thomas responded 16 seconds later with a score from Eric Langridge. Steven Fowler's power play goal gave the Maroons a 5-2 lead later in the frame. The Stars got one back with an Adam Keyes goal but they were unable to close the gap.
Ryan Wagner had 29 saves in goal for the Maroons. Kodie Oude Vashaar stopped 38 shots in the losing effort for St. Thomas.
The Stars travel to LaSalle on Wednesday night. Maroons head to Strathroy on Saturday. Puck drop is at 7:30pm and all the action can be heard on CFCO Country 92.9/AM 630.
