An air carrier is expanding service from Windsor to a popular winter destination.
Porter Airlines will be adding nonstop service to Orlando, Florida from Windsor and Ottawa starting in mid-December. These will be the first flights to a US destination out of an airport besides Porter's hub at Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto.
“This is Porter’s third year flying to Orlando-Melbourne,” Porter Airlines president and CEO Robert DeLuce says in a statement. “Adding Ottawa and Windsor to the popular Toronto route means that more people can visit this area of Florida by leaving directly from their own communities.”
This air route is added to the growing list of nonstop routes from Windsor to popular destinations.
“We are absolutely delighted Porter Airlines is launching non-stop seasonal flights from Windsor to Orlando Melbourne International Airport in Florida,” says Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens in a news release. “And we are honoured Windsor has been chosen as one of the first cities outside of Toronto from which Porter will fly direct to Florida. Our market research shows Florida is by far Windsor’s number one destination and this new Porter route will help satisfy a huge demand in our community.”
The airline offers packages for hotels and attractions in central Florida through its Porter Escapes subsidiary.
The Windsor-Orlando non-stop route will be operational from December 16 to March 31 and run weekly.
