Grade 6 students continue to struggle with math within the St. Clair Catholic District School Board.
The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has released its results for the 2016-2017 school year.
While students in Grades 3 and 6 demonstrated a strong performance for reading and writing -- math results moved above the provincial average in Grade 3 but dropped below the provincial standard in Grade 6.
39% of Grade 6 students met or exceeded the provincial standard of 50% for math this past school year, down 1% from the 2015-2016 school year results.
Elementary curriculum Superintendent of Education Laura Callaghan says teachers, principals and support staff continue to make math a priority and are working to ensure progress in that area.
Meantime, a concerted focus at the secondary level to increase math scores for students studying in the applied stream has paid off.
Grade 9 students scored 13% higher than the provincial average -- an increase of 17% from last year.
