Chatham-Kent's Pet and Wildlife Rescue is looking to expand across the municipality.
The organization currently operates as Animal Control Services for Ward 2 and 6 in the Chatham and Blenheim area. On Monday, council will look over an information report about a recommendation for PAWR to take over wards 4 and 5 in the Wallaceburg area.
Larry Benoit currently operates as Animal Control Services for these wards at the shelter located at 105 Arnold St. in Wallaceburg with the contract expiring on March 31, 2018. According to the report, Benoit wishes to terminate this agreement on November 30, 2017. Pending approval from council, PAWR plans to take over services at the Wallaceburg shelter on December 1,2017.
"We're always looking to expand. The opportunity presented itself, so we did take advantage of being able to expand to Wallaceburg," says Animal Services Manager Jason Hamm.
PAWR plans to provide services out of the Wallaceburg shelter with the same operating hours and budgets.
"We will be hiring a part-time animal care attendant for the Wallaceburg shelter, as well as a part-time animal control officer. We are looking to keep on current Wallaceburg shelter staff, if they're interested," says Hamm.
