A Dozen Charges After MNR Blitz On Lake Erie

Provincial officials are reporting what they're calling a "high rate of non-compliance" after a one-day enforcement blitz on Lake Erie and Rondeau Bay.

A release from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says officers checked 18 anglers from Quebec and Ontario on August 17 and laid 12 charges.

Some of the offences include:

- fishing without a licence

- fishing with an artificial light to attract fish

- carrying over-limits of crappie and largemouth bass

- using a spear for fishing

Officers say they also laid charges and issued warnings for safety infractions and seized a small boat, some fishing equipment, and over 100 fish.

Ministry officers are also encouraging members of the public to report any natural resources violations to the MNR TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
