CK Power Company Fined

Entegrus Powerlines in Chatham has been fined $70,000 after pleading guilty to failing two workers who received electrical burns.

The court heard that a six-person crew was changing a switch on a utility pole in Strathroy in August of 2016 when the incident happened. The safety cover on the lines was removed during this time and not reinstalled.

The end of a lead made contact with a live power line and the two workers suffered electrical burns.

Entegrus pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that a dedicated and competent observer was in place with no other duties but to monitor the work continuously.

In addition to the $70,000 fine, the court also imposed a 25% victim surcharge as required by the Provincial Offences Act.
